To our supporters:

Patricia & Miriam Parker This is the most exciting time of year at Arts for Art as we prepare for the 14th annual Vision Festival (a 7 day multi-arts / avantJazz happening) This year we are the One and Only NYC Summer Jazz Festival! Yet we remain cutting edge and independent. There is so much to tell that I don't even know where to begin!

Emerging Talent

Saturday Afternoon is the VF Emerging Artists Series where we showcase a new generation of innovative musicians.

There will be a Special Sunday Afternoon performance by 4 Youth Bands with musicians ranging in age from 7 to 18. They are all working in the wide open language of innovation. This is the culmination of an AFA initiative to make musical innovation available to future generations.

Vision + Motion

Exciting dance performances by Miriam Parker as well as the downtown dance legend Yvonne Meier. There will be a special Dance Installation with Jason Jordan and friends to appear spontaneously in different sites from Thursday June 11 to Sunday June 14. If the Vision Collaboration Nights wetted your appetite for music and movement, than the Vision Festival will quench it!

What Is AFA, RUCMA, The CDI?

Arts for Art, is a non-profit, multi-discipline arts organization. With the Vision Festival, it has put avantJazz on the map. It's vision focused presentations include the very important Vision Collaboration Nights featuring dance in collaboration with music and art. To make innovative music more available on an ongoing basis AFA has been presenting a music series now at The Local 269 (The Monday Night Evolving Music Series). AFA has partnered with schools and after-school programs to introduce students to the world of improvised music and innovative arts. www.artsforart.org

Rise Up Creative Music and Arts (RUCMA), was established by AFA in 2007. It is a grassroots movement of musicians and artists, to address creative, political, and practical concerns regarding survival and the cultural life of New York City. This was an outgrowth of a movement that originated with the closing of Tonic, Sin-é, CBGB, etc. AFA with RUCMA reaches out to a broad spectrum of innovative artists to empower and create solutions. RUCMA has made possible the In Gardens, the RUCMA music Series and an Upcoming RUCMA Orchestra. This is just the beginning. www.rucma.org

The Community Development Initiative, launched by AFA in January 2008, is dedicated to the development of a cultural nexus and the building of an innovative art center. It will work together with the arts community, the business community, and the community at large to accomplish common goals to make innovative art more available.
