We are
fighting for our livelihood – Musicians need to play in a venue
adequate in size, with a grand piano and good sound system. We need
affordable rehearsal and recording studios. These spaces need to be
in strategic areas so that they are available to varied communities.
NYC's new music and experimental jazz culture is a unique asset. It
must not be left to the mercy of market forces. A rich variety of
original, creative musics have been developed in New York and exported
all over the world and supported in cities all over the world. Now
it is time, that they are supported in the city of their origin. The
City of NY needs to make this possible through the donation of a centrally
located space for this purpose. We are also fighting for affordable
housing for Artists as well as the general population. We do not want
to ghettoize our art or our artists.
We are fighting to enrich our city through making art a more vital
part of the cities culture, through integrating music, dance, spoken
word and the various visual arts into the fabric of our society. Art
feeds the Spirit of its people and it is time that we are enabled
to do this job. |
This group is now
at the very beginning stages of what we hope will grow into a real
arts movement.
We must change the dialogue around art from disgruntled to empowered.
- Rise Up Creative Music and Arts (aka Rise Up) is a pressure group.
Its mission is to bring together a community of artists and their
supporters
- to draw attention to the need for different kinds of spaces for
art in NY - as well as the importance of integrating art into the
fabric of society.
Rise Up will identify, network and support appropriate Non Profits
who are in a position to actualize these goals- through their work
with
- government at the city, state and federal levels
- private foundations
- other non profits and Rise Up
Rise Up are the artists themselves and their supporters coming together
to claim their position and its importance within the fabric of society.
We realize that there is a need for US to explain how we have helped
and how we can better help our communities.
